How We Benchmark VPS Performance: Our Methodology

Our Benchmarking Approach

At VPSBenchmarks, we believe in providing accurate, reproducible, and transparent performance data. Here is how we test every VPS we review.

CPU Performance

We use sysbench and Geekbench to measure CPU performance across single-core and multi-core operations. Tests include:

- Prime number computation
- AES encryption
- Compression
- Floating-point operations

Disk I/O

Disk speed is critical for most workloads. We test:

| Test | Tool | Metric |
|------|------|--------|
| Sequential Read | dd / fio | MB/s |
| Sequential Write | dd / fio | MB/s |
| Random 4K IOPS | fio | IOPS |
| File Creation | blogbench | files/s |

Network

Network performance is tested from multiple global locations:

- Download speed from 10+ global test servers
- Latency (ping) to major regions
- Packet loss percentage
- Route tracing to identify network paths

Pricing Value Score

We calculate a Value Score by combining performance metrics with pricing:

Value Score = (CPU Score x 0.3 + Disk Score x 0.3 + Network Score x 0.25 + Features x 0.15) / Monthly Price

Our Testing Environment

All tests are performed on the cheapest available plan of each provider to give you the most relevant data.
